How Thrifting Helps Those in Need

If you’re a regular thrifter, you know the feeling of excitement as you pull up to the thrift store and search racks, shelves, and bins for the best deals on the greatest finds. Did you know there’s another reason to feel good about your shopping?

When you shop at Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana thrift stores, you are helping veterans, individuals and families rebuild their lives. All of the proceeds from your purchases support life-changing programs and make a difference in your community.

Of course, you can’t go shopping at thrift store if no one donates their unused items. When you donate the clothes you don't wear anymore, the pots and pans taking up space in your cabinet, the old rocking chair sitting in your basement, you are contributing to a better tomorrow for those in need.

Who are you helping with your thrift donations? Let us introduce you to a few people who have benefited from your support.

“I met with VOA on a Wednesday. I met with a landlord who showed me an apartment on Friday, and I had my keys to move in on Monday,” Tanya remembers. “I moved in with nothing. Volunteers of America not only supplemented my rent for the first three months, they helped me furnish my entire apartment.” – Tanya, Army Veteran and current member of the Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana Board of Directors

“Every day, the staff took my hand and helped me. The program director told me I only need to worry about my recovery, and all the other worries I had could wait. With VOA’s help, I got a maintenance job and I really like it. After my first 12 days, I got a raise and am always thanked for my hard work.” – John
