Season of Sharing

It’s getting cold out there! Temperatures are dropping, snow is falling, and Christmas is just around the corner. It’s a joyous season for many, but as the holidays approach, there are veterans, kids, and families in your community who are struggling.

They worry, "Do I have what I need to keep warm? Can I afford to celebrate this year?” Veterans are feeling isolated and hopeless.

That’s why our partners at Furniture Fair in Cincinnati and Dayton joined us for the Season of Sharing! Now through January 9, you can stop by any Furniture Fair location in Cincinnati or Dayton to donate warm weather clothing and personal care items. For locations and more donation information please visit our website.

“For Furniture Fair, we believe that if we give back to our community, our community will give back to us. After all, we are nothing without a strong community around us.” - Craig Daniels, Marketing Director at Furniture Fair

If you don’t live in the Cincinnati area, you can still share your light with neighbors in need this holiday season! Give gifts of warmth and hope through the Season of Sharing.

Season of Sharing offers an easy way to share warmth with veterans, joy with families, and neighborly love throughout the holiday season. Adopt a wish list, spread the word, and give with your heart!

How can I help?

Start a donation drive and collect items to help veterans, families, and kids in your community.

Step 1: Download the Giving Guide to access wish lists and let us know you’d like to get involved.

Email us volunteer@voaohin.org to share the details of your donation drive.

Step 2: Choose your giving path.

Set a timeline for your donation drive and decide if you’d like to focus on helping veterans, families, individuals, or all of the above! You can find donation wish lists in the Dropbox folder.

Step 3: Set up clearly marked collection boxes in well-trafficked areas and make sure any online component of donating (Amazon wish list, monetary donations, etc.) is clear to your audience.

Step 4: Spread the word.

Utilize the materials provided in the Giving Guide Dropbox folder! Post flyers, shout it out on social media, send emails, and tell your network of family, friends, and coworkers how they can help. If you are an organized group like a company or community organization, there are so many ways to encourage involvement!

  • Hold raffles/fundraisers to collect money to buy needed supplies
  • Offer employees a “dress down” or “team gear” day for their donations
  • Encourage friendly competition to see which teams or groups can collect the most items

Step 5: Share the fun!

Whether you post on social media and tag us (@voaohin) or send the photos directly to us, we want to join in on the fun! We also ask that you report your donation totals so we can share our gratitude for your hard work.

After your donation drive, reach out to volunteer@voaohin.org so we can coordinate a timeframe to drop off your items at one of our locations.

Give with your heart this holiday season and surround your neighbors with love! Be a light in the darkness this holiday season and make a difference in the lives of neighbors who need you.
