Car donation in Ohio gives at-risk children a boost

Homeless youth struggle to keep up with their peers.

While most kids are busy shuttling between the pool and soccer practice throughout the summer, the homeless children in our Youth Education Center have a very different story. Without a home or stability, they turn to Volunteers of America to teach them trust, help them progress and give them hope.

Here are the facts: homeless children are sicker than other school-age children. In fact, they are twice as likely to have ear infections, have four times the rate of asthma and five times the rate of diarrhea and stomach problems.

Homeless children are hungry. They are twice as likely to be malnourished as your child.

Homeless children fall behind. In fact, they are twice as likely to repeat a grade as other kids.

Homeless children need help. Half experience anxiety, depression or withdrawal.

The kids we serve in our Summer Enrichment Program gain the skills that will keep them from repeating history. We give them a safe place to go, with people who invest in their academic progress, social growth and development. We help them explore careers they never imagined, expose them to art and encourage them to explore their emotions and improve communication. They also gain imperative computer skills and receive nutritious meals.

Why is our program different than other summer programs? Each of our children is either currently homeless or has been homeless in the recent past. We imagine a future where every child feels safe and cared for. Until that becomes a reality, we rely on the generosity of neighbors like you to support these programs.

Donate your car vehicle in Ohio.

In order for the children we serve to continue to gain the skills most school-age children inherently have access to, we first need your help. It’s unbelievably simple. Just fill out our online form or call (800) 225-0732. We’ll accept almost anything with a motor and tow your vehicle for free the same day, even if it hasn’t run in years. You could even receive more for your vehicle as a charitable contribution on your tax return than you would selling it privately when you donate your car, truck, motorcycle, boat or RV to Volunteers of America. Contribute to a child’s future by donating your vehicle. There are no limits to caring.
