Cleveland, Ohio Homeless Outreach Helps Those in Need

Ohio’s homeless facing below-freezing temperatures

What if you could never escape the cold Cleveland chill you felt on your walk to the car this morning? For thousands of homeless men, women and children all across Greater Ohio, this nightmare is a very real aspect of their day-to-day survival. At Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio, we strive to end the despair of over 16,000 homeless individuals throughout the state by providing viable programs and services for those in need. In Cleveland, a valuable resource is our street outreach, which meets the basic human needs of the city’s unsheltered homeless.

“No one should have to spend the night on Cleveland’s streets in the snow and freezing cold,” said Dennis Kresak, Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio president and CEO. “We hope the community will join with us in our efforts to provide warm meals and beds for those in need.”

How you can help Cleveland’s homeless outreach

With temperatures dropping and snow falling all across Ohio, Cleveland’s street outreach is more important than ever. Our staff canvas the streets where the homeless congregate to establish trust and link them with community resources. We meet their basic needs by offering blankets, clothing and food as well as transportation to shelter services.

You can help us continue to meet the need today by simply donating sleeping bags, blankets, coffee, hot chocolate and water, hats, gloves, scarves and non-perishable food items. Sleeping bags, blankets and warm clothing can be new or even gently used. Monetary donations are also accepted.

Our Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio homeless outreach services are located at Walton Avenue Housing Program at 2710 Walton Ave., Cleveland, Ohio 44113. We provide emergency shelter to 26 men each night throughout the year and have an additional 30 beds during the winter.
