Donate Your Car in Ohio and Help Kids Returning to School

It’s that time of year again — back-to-school time. Each year, with your support, we have been able to make going back to school a little easier for Ohio children in need. Donate your car in Ohio and you can help at-risk children returning to school in your community. By donating your vehicle, Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio can sell it at auction and use the proceeds to benefit our social-service programs, as well as the children in our housing programs through the Youth Education Center. This program offers a safe place for children to go after school to help them with their academic progress, social growth and development.

How the Youth Education Center aids children across the state

Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio provides support services to homeless children through our housing programs and through our Youth Education Center in Columbus. This after-school program offers career exploration, tutoring, nutrition, art and computer education, and other programs that encourage children to explore their emotions and improve communication. The impact that this program has on the children in our program is priceless — though there are many after-school programs, the children in our program are either homeless or have recently been homeless. It is Volunteers of America’s goal to live in a world where all children have a home, which in turn allows them to feel safe and secure.

The struggles that homeless children face on a daily basis

When you donate your car the Volunteers of America, you’re funding programs that allow children in our programs to focus on being a student rather than worrying about the challenges they face outside the classroom. Homeless children are sick twice as much as other children — suffering twice as many ear infections, four times the rate of asthma, and five times as many cases of diarrhea, since homeless children go hungry twice as often as non-homeless children. Moreover, half of school-aged homeless children experience anxiety, depression or withdrawal compared to the only 18 percent of non-homeless children. With all these statistics mounting against them, homeless children are twice as likely to repeat a grade when compared to other children. This is a number Volunteers of America is diligently trying to eradicate and, with your support through Ohio car donation, we know we can do it.
