Some good news: Unemployment rates for veterans at all-time low
Plus, how your Dayton car donation helps
Those who have served in our armed forces often face undue economic hardship after they return. For example, one in five homeless people is a veteran.
But there are encouraging signs, such as a recent story in the Dayton Daily News, which reports that unemployment among veterans is at an all-time low.
For the generation of post-9/11 veterans, 2015 statistics showed a dip in the unemployment rate that brought it to its lowest point since the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics started tracking veteran employment rates in 2008.
The jobless rate of 5.8 percent was only a half-percent lower than the general population. It's a reflection of some of the difficulties our veterans can face, but it's also a sign that things are getting better for them. That 5.8 percent figure was down from 7.2 percent the year before, and unemployment among these vets has fallen almost twice as fast as the national rate.
These numbers are no accident. Through the work of programs like the Homeless Veteran Employment Program at our Veterans Resource Center, we've worked to help pay back our veterans through supporting them on the road to employment.
After their sacrifice, they deserve our support.
Support our efforts to help veterans through a Dayton car donation
One of the simplest and most effective ways to help keep our needed programs operating is a car donation.
If you have an unused or unwanted vehicle, your donation can help us in our mission to help Dayton veterans.
We accept cars, trucks, boats, RVs — almost anything with a motor.
And we've made donating your vehicle even simpler than trying to sell it. We can arrange free towing, often on the same day you contact us. Even if the car is no longer running, you can still donate it. And you potentially can make more money from the tax deduction than you would a sale.
- Starting the process of car donation is quick and easy.
- Online: Just fill out our online form, and we'll contact you to schedule a convenient pickup time.
- By phone: Call us at 800-862-6030 to start the donation process.
- In person: If you happen to be passing through the Columbus area, you can just drop off your car with a clean title at 5640 W. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio, 43228.
Your generosity will help us help our veterans.
