Recent Promotions Reflect Volunteers of America's Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

July 22, 2020
Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana is proud to announce the promotion of two dynamic women and the creation of two new roles that reflect the organization’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as an organization-wide strategic priority as approved by its Board of Directors in April 2020.

Kathleen Atkins has been promoted to Sr. Vice President Program Operations, Veterans and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Officer. Susan Reamsynder has been promoted to Sr. Vice President Program Operations, Housing and Director of Ministry. Together, these new and important positions have been created to lead Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana’s comprehensive and intentional activities around valuing rich diversity among all people across the two-state organization to include staff, clients and volunteers.

Atkins will continue to direct the organization’s work serving the needs of homeless and at-risk veterans. In her expanded role as DEI Officer, she will spearhead DEI initiatives throughout the organization by setting and implementing an overarching vision of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Reamsynder will continue to direct the organization’s housing services for homeless and low-income individuals, families and seniors. She will also serve as the organization’s first Director of Ministry by leading ministry resources and ensuring culturally competent services are provided to people of all faiths.

“Both Kathy and Sue will lean on their leadership skills and substantial human services experience to engage the entire organization in the process of ensuring Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana is fostering an environment of equity and inclusion where everyone feels safe and valued. Combined, Kathy and Sue have been with Volunteers of America for 38 years, and aside from their professional accomplishments, they have servant hearts and embody our mission to transform lives and help people reach their full potential by offering hope and restoring dignity.”
