Announcing new thrift store coming to Pickerington

Fashionistas and bargain hunters will soon be able to enjoy the treasure hunt of thrift shopping in Pickerington at a new nonprofit thrift store being built.

Construction of the $2.7 million store is anticipated to be done in November of 2018 and the store is scheduled to open in spring 2019.

The new 19,000 square foot store will be built on 3.4 acres on Old Diley Road, adjacent to the Kroger Plaza on Hill Road, directly behind Pizza Cottage, at 909 Old Diley Road.

Gutknecht Construction will be the builder and general contractor for the project.

There will be a new parking lot constructed, allowing for 121 parking spaces for shoppers.

The new Volunteers of America thrift store will provide easier access to affordable clothing and household items to the east Columbus suburb.

It will bring 40 new jobs to the area with 20 of those jobs being full-time employees.

The new store will also include an attached covered drive-thru donation center for community members who wish to donate gently used items to help support homeless veterans, families and individuals.

Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio currently operates 10 thrift stores throughout the state. The Pickerington location will be the first thrift store custom built. This location will have a new look and upscale design.

All Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio thrift stores are 100% nonprofit – all donations and purchases directly impact the lives of thousands of homeless veterans, families, individuals in our community.

Residents can show their support by donating gently used items to the Donation Drop-Off Center located at Brookview Village Center, 1232 Hill Road North.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 11 a.m. with the Mayor of Pickerington, Lee Gray; Matt Richardson, Board member with the Pickerington Chamber of Commerce; Kristina Lilley, Thrift Regional Manager; Jimmy Wooten, District Manager of Thrift Operations; Don Markelonis, Executive Vice President of Retail Operations; and Dennis Kresak, President and CEO of Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio.
