Volunteers of America Crossroads Shelter Hosts Second Annual “Roll Out the Help” Toilet Paper Drive
SANDUSKY, OH – Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio’s Crossroads homeless shelter will host the second “Roll Out the Help” Toilet Paper Drive in celebration of National Toilet Paper Day on Saturday, August 26 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Currently seeking gap funding through its community campaign to complete important renovations, the Crossroads homeless shelter’s supply of hygiene and household items have also dwindled. The Drive will serve Crossroads residents and other Erie County residents in need, and aims to collect basic household necessities – items other than food that are considered critical to health and well-being, including personal care items, baby care items, and household maintenance items.
While federal nutrition programs, such as WIC, focus solely on food, participants in those programs cannot use those benefits for personal hygiene or household items. Food pantries and meal providers do not have the means to offer other non-food assistance, despite a growing need within the community.
“The struggle for many American households to afford basic household items is increasing,” said Sue Reamsnyder, Vice President of Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio. “By hosting ‘Roll Out the Help’, we can help the homeless as they move into a new home, and support the seniors, families, and other individuals in our community who are struggling to make ends meet.”
The Drive will be held on Saturday, August 26 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at Kroger located at 226 East Perkins Avenue. Items that were identified as “basic essentials” include: toilet paper, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, dishwashing liquid, shampoo & conditioner, baby diapers & wipes, detergent, paper towels, shaving cream, razors, and feminine hygiene items.
