Share Your Holidays Drive Helps Northeast Ohio Neighbors In Need

Volunteers of America teamed up with other local non-profits to give back to Cleveland community members

CLEVELAND, OH – To help our neighbors in need, Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio collected coats as part of the Share Your Holidays donation drive in Northeast Ohio, from December 4-8, 2017.

Around the holidays, it’s important to remember that there are so many families in our community that are in need. It’s the time of year to give back and make a donation.

Becky Carlino, Development Officer at Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio, said, “It’s the end of the year, as temperatures drop, we have homeless veterans that are in desperate need of jackets, hats, gloves and scarves.”

“You can also drop off jackets and other warm clothing at our thrift stores in North Olmsted and Brunswick,” she said.

The holiday season is a time to celebrate and spend with family and friends. But, for so many veterans and families struggling with homelessness, having something to smile about doesn't come easy. As many of us enjoy presents, food and fun, there are countless veterans, men, women and children who can't put food on the table, keep warm through winter, or even find a safe place to sleep.

The Share Your Holiday drive is the single largest donation drive in Northeast Ohio and is sponsored by Cleveland 19 News, Marc’s, Levin Furniture, The Salvation Army of Greater Cleveland, and Greater Cleveland Food Bank.

Working together, area charities collected items to help the community. The Greater Cleveland Food Bank collected non-perishable food items, Salvation Army of Greater Cleveland collected toys, and Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio collected coats.
