Sandusky Food Pantry Hosts First Annual Toilet Paper Drive

SANDUSKY – Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio's food pantry will host its first-ever Toilet Paper Drive in celebration of National Toilet Paper Day on Friday, August 26 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at Kroger located at 508 W. Perkins Avenue.

The Drive will serve Erie County residents and aims to collect basic household necessities, items other than food that are considered critical to health and well-being, including personal care items, baby care items, and household maintenance items.

Community residents can donate toilet paper and other "basic essentials" such as: soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, dishwashing liquid, shampoo & conditioner, baby diapers & wipes, detergent, paper towels, shaving cream, razors, and feminine hygiene items.

"The struggle for many American households to afford basic household items is increasing," said Sue Reamsnyder, Vice President of Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio. "By hosting a toilet paper drive, we're promoting the well-being of all Erie County residents by making sure every resident has access to much-needed household necessities. This ultimately helps our community thrive and remain vibrant."

While federal nutrition programs, such as WIC, focus solely on food, participants in those programs cannot use those benefits for personal hygiene or household items, including toilet paper. Annually, more than 500 families are served at Volunteers of America's pantry.

About the Program

Our Crossroads shelter located in Sandusky provides safe and temporary shelter for homeless men and women, helping them to achieve stable housing and employment. Services provided include a warm bed, hot meals, clothing, case management, nursing clinic and referrals to community resources.
