Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana and Humana Announce Partnership to Expand Behavioral Health Services in Ohio
COLUMBUS, OH (December 17, 2020)
Volunteers of America (VOA) Ohio & Indiana today announced that Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) is investing $400,000 to expand the nonprofit’s local behavioral health services for Ohioans. The initiative includes the launch of VOA’s Family Focused Recovery (FFR) program in Ohio, featuring a new center in Columbus offering residential addiction treatment for pregnant and postpartum women.
The center – slated to open in 2022 – will provide prevention, screening, early intervention, addiction treatment, and recovery support services for pregnant and postpartum women with opioid use disorders. Mothers can have up to two children (under the age of five) live with them during treatment. VOA’s FFR programs are among the few in the country that combine intensive addiction treatment services with wraparound family support to address underlying social determinants of health that often impede recovery.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Ohio has one of the highest rates of drug overdose deaths and opioid prescriptions in the nation.
"Our partnership with Humana and its investment in expanding Volunteers of America’s Family Focused Recovery program will help ensure that more women have healthy babies, and that more mothers keep their children while receiving treatment in a safe and nurturing environment."

Humana’s investment also will support the expansion of services to help individuals with post-incarceration community integration, with the creation of a new behavioral health treatment clinic in Mansfield, Ohio in 2021.
"It’s vital, especially during these challenging times, that local nonprofit organizations be able to continue their important work and help Ohioans in need. We’re proud to collaborate with Volunteers of America here in Ohio to support the creation and operation of innovative programs to help men and women who want to improve their health and well-being."

The Ohio initiative follows an October announcement of a broader collaboration between Humana and Volunteers of America. Humana is supporting Volunteers of America affiliates with access to capacity-building services and innovative, outcomes-based financing to help the organization scale to meet increasing demand in the communities it serves.
