Volunteers of America has rebuilt warehouse after devastating fire last year
THEY ARE ASKING THE COMMUNITY FOR DONATIONS TO FULLY RECOVER AND CONTINUE HELPING THE COMMUNITY
Columbus, OH- Last year, a tragic fire devastated Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio’s warehouse on West Broad Street where they stored donated items. Now they have rebuilt the warehouse and need help to fully recover from the loss.
“Now that our warehouse has been rebuilt, we are asking the community to donate their items to help fill the warehouse and support community programs,” said Dennis Kresak, president and CEO of Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio. “Through the community’s support, homeless veterans, families, and individuals can continue to receive the support they need to reach their full potential.”
Proceeds from the nonprofit thrift stores help homeless families, veterans, and individuals across Ohio.
No one was injured from the massive fire on January 2, 2017 but over 225,000 pounds of donations were lost in a matter of hours. Volunteers of America said that the fire completely destroyed $708,000 worth of donations, three large trucks, a forklift and the warehouse building itself. This put the nonprofit organization several months behind in their thrift operations. Even after insurance reimbursement, over a million dollars in revenue was lost.
The new warehouse features a complex sprinkler system and fire retardant walls.
